Dave started painting at a Mates4mates veteran art class and has chosen oil painting as his expression of choice. Dave is known for expressive, bold work that captures the character of everyday moments and overlooked details. Many works are painted on discarded timber, using weathered wood as both surface and storytelling element.

Dave enjoys finding beauty in the things that we throw away and the hope is that you will too.

Valuing feeling over perfection, Dave approaches painting with curiosity, humour, and a willingness to let the work stay a little rough around the edges if it means it feels more alive. The natural marks, grain, and imperfections of reclaimed timber play an active role in the paintings, adding history, texture, and a sense of place.
Grounded and approachable, Dave believes art doesn’t have to take itself too seriously to be meaningful. The goal is to create honest, energetic work that feels familiar—like a shared laugh or a well-known place seen in a new way
